I just got back from a local American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) meeting, and the presenter played this video at the beginning of his session. He was presenting on hazardous materials business plans and played the video because he thought it was funny. It did not necessarily relate to his presentation, but it went over really well. I was thinking it would be a good one to add to an accident investigation class if you wanted to make it relate to the subject matter. Good investigations don’t jump to conclusions and immediately place blame. The process that led to the behavior needs to be examined! Check out the video and think about the following before jumping to the conclusion of blaming that poor dog:
-
There are obviously cats in the house. How do we know a cat might not have eaten the treats through a small hole then the dog made a bigger hole to find nothing left?
-
How often does this poor dog get fed? How can you blame the behavior if he has not been fed for a day or two?
-
Are the treats kept within clear reach of the dog?
-
Will punishment prevent this behavior in the future if the treats were kept in the same place?
