BCJPIA Police Liability Forum 2012
Auditing Police Performance: How to Stay Ahead of Your Problems
The Bay Cities Joint Powers Insurance Authority will be hosting a Police Liability Forum with Mark Wittenberg on February 21, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the City of Pleasanton Council Chambers. Mark J. Wittenberg, is a veteran police manager and auditor with more than two decades of experience working with police management, audits and professional standards. Upon completion, attendees will have the tools and the confidence to assess key performance areas and develop recommendations that have long term impact.
How many times have you heard this: “We never seem to have enough time to do it right, but always find time to do it over,” or “things in my agency just seem to happen.” No, they really don’t. You have plenty of time, spent correctly. Tools and skills are available. Stop the cycle of re-work and frustration that drains resources and keeps your agency from doing its best! Identifying fundamental issues and acting on them are the two vital keys.
“Auditing Police Performance” is a course intended for police managers and interested city staff that want to identify significant performance issues before they become damage control nightmares. By the time a complaint is filed, it is often too late. When the news cameras show up in the front lobby to ask those uncomfortable questions, your best opportunity is gone. Our goal is to work with you to minimize the possibility of that happening. This course is the roadmap to do just that. Each participant will learn:
-
The five red flags of poor police performance
-
The four elements of police culture that drive outcomes
-
How to identify and assess which behaviors hurt your agency
-
How to decide if an audit is needed
-
How to begin an audit program
-
How to develop an audit scope, methodology and recommendations
-
How to write a compelling audit document with strategic direction and hope
-
How to turn a potential crisis into an opportunity for change
Please join us for this opportunity to learn more about the audit principles that BCJPIA Risk Control and many of our members utilize to control our police department exposure to costly litigation.
